The shortened version was a total of 45 minutes versus the 82 minutes of the full length film.

The remaining SPEED airing dates include:

2 June 2012 at 02:00 pm ET
23 June 2012 at 02:30 pm ET

iTunes

The expected iTunes release was the first time people outside of America would be able to watch the film. However the film was only released on a few iTunes stores namely: America, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and England. Only the English version of the film has been released onto iTunes.

Audi TV

A few days after the iTunes release Audi TV released a streaming version of both the English and German versions of the film.

YouTube

The iTunes release received much criticism from internet and popular forum websites regarding the limited distribution. Many suggested a YouTube release would be a great idea and would also increase the audience tenfold. By the end of the week Audi of America uploaded the full version of the English, German, French and Spanish versions onto Youtube in HD (720p) format.

The English version had received over 15000 views during its first weekend online, clearly it was a good move to upload the films.

Audi S4 quattro racers in the thick of the action‏ at Zwartkops

Press Release from Audi South Africa

THE Bridgestone Production Car racing at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday was a high-speed chase to the flag with the Audi S4 quattros right in the thick of the action.

The series made use of a three-race recipe for action with two sprint races and a feature race later in the day. As predicted by defending Class A champion, Michael Stephen (A1 – Engen Xtreme / Tsogo Sun), in the run-up to the race meeting, the Audi S4 quattros proved more than capable of the task at hand.

It was an excellent race weekend,” says Stephen. “We went quicker than the last time we raced here and achieved two second place finishes and a third. There were no big changes made to the cars since Scribante, but we found place to make a few small improvements which, added together, made a big difference.”

A weekend on the podium for Stephen saw him finish in second overall – with his teammate, Tschops Sipuka (A2 – Engen Xtreme / Tsogo Sun), just one step down in third place overall after the three races. In the first and last race Sipuka was hot on the heels of his teammate as the pair crossed the line, making the Zwartkops round one of their most successful team outings this season.

I'm happy with the race weekend, it’s one of the best I've had,” says Sipuka. “Clearly these are the dividends being paid from the amount of work being put into the car. A concerted effort is paying off and it is all coming together. Building from here we are looking at really good finishing positions in the championship this year.”

Unfortunately for Johan Fourie (A9 – EPS), it was not a good race weekend. The event was the first outing for Fourie with EPS as his main sponsor. With braking system problems in qualifying, a lower control arm broken in race one, not being able to start race two and contact with Ettienne van der Linde in race three, the event did not go according to plan.

I scored just one point the whole weekend,” says Fourie. “This has probably been the worst race weekend of my life. It has been extremely stressful overcoming all the issues we had but we have to look forward and get it together for the next event.”

Melvill Priest (A7 – Mueller Sport Medicine) put on a very consistent performance in his Audi S4 quattro at Zwartkops. Priest's first race finish was in fifth and he improved on that by moving up to fourth in the second race, finishing between the two Engen Xtreme Audi S4 quattros. Race three saw Priest again finish in fifth place and these results together put him fifth overall for the day with a valuable haul of points from this event.

It was average weekend for us,” says Priest. “There was quite a bit of expectation from our side and we had good race pace but our qualifying let us down. What we take from the weekend is that our expectations need to be adjusted a bit about how long it will take us to get the car right – we're just refining things at this point, qualifying is where we have to do our work, but race pace is good.”

The next outing for the Audi S4 quattros will be at the Durban street race in mid-June when the field of Bridgestone Production Cars compete as part of the TopGear festival taking place there.

Dismal weekend for Fourie‏ Audi S4 at Zwartkops

Johan Fourie Racing Press Release

Round four of the WesBank Super Series is one that Johan Fourie would rather forget. His new look EPS Audi S4 may have looked the part, but bad luck plagued the team during all three Bridgestone Production Car races at Zwartkops Raceway.

At the start of the weekend, the first thing that fans noticed was the change of sponsorship. IndyOil has once again left the team who took two Bridgestone Production Car Class A titles under their banner. Thankfully, EPS Couriers stepped up to the plate and helped the team make the trip to Pretoria.

“It has been very disappointing to lose a sponsor who we believed were happy to be part of the team. EPS Couriers have been a sponsor of Johan Fourie Racing for many years, in fact from the start of our Production Car quest. They are definitely part of the family and we are very proud and thankful to have been able to run in EPS colours this weekend,” commented Johan.

The on again off again sponsorship situation left the team with little time to prepare the Audi S4 and it was clear that the pressure got to the team in the end.

Friday was tough after the crew spent the entire night rebranding the car and truck, but things started to look brighter when Johan managed to set the fourth quickest time in the final practice session.

This trend did not however carry into Saturdays qualifying when issues with the ABS destroyed Johan’s flying lap, leaving the Capetonian in a very low ninth place.

In true fighting style, Johan lined up for the first race ready to gain some positions. He managed to make up one place during the race, but damage to his S4’s suspension badly hampered his progress. He eventually finished eighth.
On quick examination between the two races, the team saw that the lower control arm was broken and whilst Johan started race two, he retired on the second lap, unable to drive with the damage.

Not setting a lap time in the second race meant that Johan had to start the final race from the back of the field. Johan started to make headway through the field when can reached Etienne van der Linde (BMW). The two spent a lap racing side by side before the BMW driver squeezed Johan off the circuit coming onto the main straight. Johan used every ounce of the Audi’s legendary Quattro abilities, but clipped the tyre barrier before recovering and returning to the circuit. Johan drove his heart out, but was too far behind to make up any meaningful ground. He ended ninth.

“Thank you to EPS and our fans for the tremendous support over the weekend. It’s is a pity we weren’t able to do better, but we can only move forward from here,” concluded Johan.

The next round of the championship will take place in Durban on 16 and 17 June.

Weekend Round Up - Audi Motorsport Blog (26-27/05/2012)

By Johan Laubscher

This weekend was another busy weekend for the Audi brand around the world in motorsport but it was also a very up and down weekend. Some success and consistent results mixed with some disappointments.

1. The Weekend

Focussing this week on the weekend of 26-27 May 2012

-          FIA GT3
-          GT Asia
-          SA Production Cars
-          Brazil GT

-          Malaysian Super Series / Asian GT Series

2.1. FIA GT1

Round three of the FIA GT1 World Endurance championship was held at Navarra in Spain. It proved to be a very difficult event for the Belgian Audi Club WRT team as the Audi R8 LMS ultras were off the pace due to the Balance of Performance regulations. The #32 managed a top six spot in qualifying but the race yielded different results. In both races the two Audis circulated together and finished in the bottom end of the top ten. The weekend’s results have dropped both the team and the #32 crew of Ortelli and Vanthoor to third in the points standings. Hopefully the Audi R8 LMS ultra cars will be better suited at the next round.

2.2. FIA GT3

Three Audi R8 LMS ultra cars were entered for round three of the FIA European GT3 Championship. The three cars were entered by Team Novadriver and Saintéloc. WRT entered one older Audi R8 LMS in the field. As was the case in the FIA GT1 races the Audis struggled for pace but the Novadriver team completed a brilliant second race and claimed third place at the finish.

2.3. GT Asia

The opening round of the GT Asia series was held at Sepang in Malaysia and saw the debut of the Audi R8 LMS ultra in this series. A works Audi entry has been entered in the 2012 GT Asia series under the banner of Audi R8 LMS Cup. The #7 of Marchy and Jeferry Lee qualified well taking pole for race one. The team scored a double podium in the two races with third in race one and second in race two. The two podium finishes were enough to ensure that the team and the Audi R8 LMS ultra left the event as the overall series points leaders.

2.4. South African Bridgestone Production Cars

Zwartkops hosted the Wesbank Super Series of which the Bridgestone Production Cars is part of for the second time in 2012 for round four. The Engen Xtreme Terry Moss Racing Team was very strong with Michael Stephen taking second overall for the day with three podiums and teammate Sipuka also scoring two podium places and third overall. The VMP Motorsport Audi of Melvil Priest continues to improve with consistent top five finishes in all three races. The Audi of Johan Fourie suffered various problems which prevented Fourie from repeating his success he experienced at round 2 in Cape Town.

2.5. Brazil GT

The Brazilian GT series was at Curitiba for round two of the 2012 season. The Ebrahim Motors Audi R8 LMS was very fast straight out of the box with a double front row start. Second position on the gird for race one and pole for race two. However despite good grid positions and fast pace during the race, punctures and other factors unfortunately relegated the Ebrahim brother driver pairing down the standings to eventual midfield finishes.

2.6. Australian GT

Two new Audi R8 LMS teams debuted during round two of the Australian GT series at Phillip Island. The #14 of Peter Conroy and the #6 of Rod Salmon. The weekend was dominated by rain and the Friday running was cancelled due to flooding on the track. Saturday and Sunday would see consistent debut races for the two Audis including both cars finishing in the top ten during race two. The #1 Audi R8 LMS of Mark Eddy and Warren Luff was not entered in this Australian GT event.

2.7. STT

Round two of the German Spezial Tourenwagen Trophy (STT) was hosted at the Nürburgring. One Audi was on the grid, the ex-ROC Audi 80 of Joachim Duscher which won its class in race two.

2.8. Kerrick Sports Sedans

The Darren Hossack Audi A4 was ready for round two of the Australian Kerrick Sports Sedan series at Phillip Island. The weekend was highlighted with Hossack taking victory with the newly rebuilt A4 in race three.

2.9 Malaysian Super Series / Asian GT Series

The second rounds of the FRD Asian GT Series and the Malaysian Super Series was held at Sepang. As was the case during round one the two series would race together on track. Phillip Ma in the Team Hong Kong Racing Audi R8 LMS ultra (Absolute Racing supported) was at the event and did well.

2.10. CMRC

The Caribbean invasion was held at Dover in Jamaica this weekend and featured round one of the 2012 Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC). The ATL ABT-Audi TT-R driven by Jamaican Doug Gore was at the event and for the first time he was allowed to compete in the CMRC. Doug Maloney and his Audi A4 STW from Barbados were not present at the event. Doug Gore qualified well. Gore placed second in the first MP4/3 category race and won the second race. The first CMRC race of the day followed but with a bad result for the ATL Audi. Doug Gore was involved in a big first corner crash which damaged the front of the TT-R badly and destroyed the left rear corner of the car taking the wheel assembly off as well. The shunt ended Gore’s participation on the day, but the ATL team have vowed to be ready for the next race meeting.

2.11. DTM at Graz

The DTM hosted an event on the streets of Graz in Austria. 22000 spectators were present to see the event which included DTM cars and drivers including Miguel Molina in an Audi A4 DTM thrilling the crowd. The Graz event was held a week ahead of the DTM race in Austria.

2.12. Other Audi news

The first American based Audi R8 LMS ultra has successfully conducted its first shakedown at Palim Beach International Raceway. The car is run by Elton Julian’s DragonSpeed team. The team has confirmed its entry for the 2013 Dubai 24 Hours and have mentioned the possibility of the 2013 Bathurst 12 Hours and Nürburgring 24 Hours. The team is also investigating the possibility of competing in the SCCA World Challenge and the ALMS GTC class.

The weekend saw two Audi R8 LMS cars debut in the Australian GT series taking the Audi count to three cars in the series. Along with these three Audi R8 LMS cars there is another Audi R8 LMS that is for sale in Australia at Melbourne Performance Centre. This thus confirms that there are at least four Audi R8 LMS cars in Australia.

The successful Swedish skier Jon Olsson took part in the 2012 Gumball 3000 in his heavily modified Audi R8 V10 (PPI Razor & Stasis). The 2012 event route started on the East side of America from New York and travelled to the west side of the country to finish at Los Angeles. The Gumball events are not traditional road rallies. Olsson entered his car in the Stormtroopers team which consisted of the Audi R8, a Lamborghini and a Camaro. Various Audis had been entered into the event and Olsson’s R8 was the one drawing the headlines as the Swedish star and his monstrous black car won stages during the event.

The film was released mid week on Audi.TV for streaming of the English and German versions of the film. And finally on Friday Audi USA uploaded the entire Truth in 24 II film onto YouTube which received over 14000 views during the weekend.
3. Next Weekend’s events (2-3/06/2012)

WRT Belgian Audi Club hard weekend in FIA GT1 at Navarra

By Tarek Ramchani

Navarra hosted the third round of the FIA GT1 World Championship this weekend. The WRT Belgian Audi Club had dominated the season opener at Nogaro but struggled during round 2 at Zolder, their home track last time out. The Belgians arrived in Spain as the series points leaders and had a very mixed weekend at Circuito de Navarra.

Qualifying Race:

WRT Belgian Audi Club - Audi R8 LMS ultra
After a disappointing qualifying session, the two Belgian Audi Club R8s started from lower positions. Sixth was the #32 Audi of Laurens Vanthoor and Stephane Ortelli. The sister #33 with Frank Stippler and Oliver Jarvis was further back in position ten. Both Vanthoor and Stippler were the starting drivers. It was reasonably obvious after all of the free practice and qualifying sessions that the team won't be able to challenge for the top spots. Both cars were running together for the first part of the 60 minute sprint race fighting in the middle of the pack. After the mandatory pit stops, a really fierce battle started for positions seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth. The two R8 LMS ultra now in hands of Stephane Ortelli (car #32) and Oliver Jarvis (car #33) battled with a 458 GT3, a 997 GT3 R and a Z4 GT3. Hard fights on track with the five cars switching places for that seventh place finish. Both Ortelli and Jarvis pushed too hard and they almost collided. Thankfully this time no touch as last time at Zolder and the two cars kept fighting. In the end the two cars finished grouped in positions eighth and ninth. Oliver Jarvis with the #33 Audi just ahead of Stepahne Ortelli and the #32 R8. Race victory went to Hexis Racing and their McLaren MP4-12C cars. The French team scoring a 1-2 win.

Championship Race:

WRT Belgian Audi Club - Audi R8 LMS ultra
Sunday’s main "Championship Race" was almost the same as the "Qualifying" race. Both Audis were only able to fight in the middle of the pack. Stephane Ortelli with the #32 R8 LMS and Oliver Jarvis in the #33 car did fight again for track positions. Ortelli was the last driver to pit almost seconds before the pit window was closed. That wasn't enough and the car again dropped back. In the closing stages Laurens Vanthoor was able to fight back with a clearly "inferior" Audi R8 LMS ultra. The young Belgian did a great job battling with and passing some cars.  Vanthoor almost lost his R8 in a battle with a Porsche GT3 R and a Ferrari 458 GT3. In the end Oliver Jarvis and Frank Stippler finished in eighth with Stephane Ortelli and Laurens Vanthoor in tenth. Race win went again to the French Hexis Racing and their McLaren MP4-12C ahead of two Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 from All-inkl.com Münnich Motorsport.

Overall it was a very disappointing weekend for the Belgian Audi Club WRT in Spain. The Audi R8 LMS ultra is without any doubts one of the strongest GT3 racers around. However in the FIA GT1 World Championship at Navarra it was clear that the car has been strongly penalized by the Balance of Performance. In the championship points standings Laurens Vanthoor and Stephane Ortelli have lost their series lead, now being in third overall. We hope things will be better for the Belgian Audi squad at the next round which will be held at the Slovakia Ring

Team Audi R8 LMS Cup lead GT Asia Series title charge

Audi R8 LMS Cup Press Release

Audi R8 LMS Cup lead GT Asia Series title charge

·         Official Audi R8 LMS Cup entry leads championship by one point
·         Two podium finishes for drivers Jeffrey Lee and Marchy Lee
·         Pole position point gives Marchy championship edge

Kuala Lumpur, May 27, 2012 –  Two dramatic races for the Audi R8 LMS Cup entry in the opening rounds of the GT Asia Series saw drivers Jeffrey Lee of Chinese Taipei and Marchy Lee of Hong Kong finish twice on the podium, with Marchy leading the drivers classification after earning an extra point for fastest lap in the first qualifying session. Jeffrey is one point behind and tied for second place.

Driving the new Audi R8 LMS ultra in the Pro/Am category, the impressive pairing of the quick and talented non-professional racer and one of Asia’s most experienced drivers proved a force to be reckoned with. The Audi R8 LMS ultra is the latest 2012 specification of the highly-successful GT3 racing car.

Marchy set the fastest time in the first qualifying session – giving him what would ultimately be the crucial extra point – while Jeffrey’s fifth-fastest time in second qualifying session meant that the team would start on the third row for Sunday’s second race.

Saturday’s season-opening round saw Marchy take the wheel for the first stint. Though starting from pole, he lost several positions off the start, before another car made contact to push the team back to ninth at the end
of the opening lap. However, Marchy quickly worked his way back up through the field, recording the race’s fastest lap, to go second.

After 10 laps, the Audi R8 LMS ultra pulled into the pits and Jeffrey took over driving duties. On Lap 12, the team dropped to third and, although Jeffrey pushed hard to move back up, he had to settle for the final podium place.

Round 2 took place on Sunday, with the team starting from fifth on the grid and Jeffrey first behind the wheel. Due to finishing third in Round 1, a 20 kg success ballast was added to the car. After being pushed down to eighth on the opening lap, Jeffrey fought back up into sixth before the driver change.

Following the driver change, Marchy quickly got to work, but faced with heavy traffic, the Hong Kong ace had a tough job getting through the field and up into third.

A yellow flag period gave Marchy the opportunity to close up the gap. Two laps later, the Safety Car came back in and Marchy grabbed the chance to fight for second.

Each GT Asia race will be 40 to 60 minutes in duration with a rolling start. While driver changes are permitted, each driver scores his own points for the championship title.

Next up for the official Audi R8 LMS Cup entry is Rounds 3&4 of the GT Asia Series from June 9-10 at the Sepang International Circuit. The series then moves to Japan for races at Fuji, Suzuka and Autopolis, before concluding the season as part of the Macau GT Cup at the 59th Macau Grand Prix.

Jeffrey Lee:
“The start was average and we lost some places on the straight, although we managed to catch up and get some of the positions back. It was the best we could do. I struggled a little bit with the car with some under steer, but overall I think we had a good weekend.”

Marchy Lee:
“I managed to overtake the second-place car, but then he came back so we had a bit of a good, but fair, fight. The race was pretty tough today. The Audi R8 LMS ultra did a very good job, but after taking second I needed a couple more laps to fight for the lead. We’ll be working on the car to find more speed for the next race.”
